Introducing Forekala: budgeting your way

We have tried just about every budgeting app out there. Some were powerful but demanded that we learn a whole methodology. Others were simple but treated our family like an afterthought. Most made the everyday basics harder than they needed to be. So we built the app we actually wanted, and we are excited to share it. This is Forekala.

Budgeting should adapt to you

The biggest frustration with most budgeting tools is that they force one way of doing things. Zero-based here, strict envelopes there, a rigid set of steps everywhere. Real life is not that tidy.

In Forekala, every category works the way that fits. Use envelopes where you need discipline, flexible targets where you need breathing room, and simple tracking for everything else, all on one plan. There is no methodology to learn and nothing forced on you.

Built for households from day one

Money is rarely a solo project, yet most apps are designed for one person with sharing bolted on later. Forekala treats households as the default.

Invite your partner or family, see every account and category together, and know who spent what with per member attribution. A shared activity feed keeps everyone on the same page, whether you are a household of one or a household of five.

Powerful, but refreshingly simple

Capable does not have to mean complicated. Forekala keeps the everyday view to one clean, scrollable list of planned, spent, and remaining, so you can see where you stand at a glance. The depth is there when you want it, and out of the way when you do not.

An AI assistant for your money

Sometimes you just want an answer. Forekala includes a built-in AI assistant, powered by Claude, that you can ask about your spending in plain language. Find out where you overspent, understand a trend, or see how you compare to similar households, all without digging through reports.

Bank sync you can trust

Connect your accounts securely through Plaid and let transactions flow in, already categorized. Forekala never sees your bank login, and access is read-only. Prefer to keep things manual? The free plan lets you track everything by hand, with no bank connection at all.

Where the name comes from

Forekala combines two ideas. Fore means looking forward, in anticipation of what is ahead. Kala is Hawaiian for to loosen, release, or set free. Together they capture what we are building toward: looking forward, with anticipation, to financial freedom.
